Things I will miss in China

MLB and Watching the World Series live and at a reasonable time: If shown live, it will either be at an inconvenient time (considering the time differences… probably 9 or 10 AM, when I have classes or whatever) or I will have to see a prerecorded version of it… how lame.

NCAA football: So I will have to hear about the Pac-10 teams on the other side of the Pacific. Of course, old favorites include: UCLA, Oregon, and USC. At least I will be back for the Bowl games. And I can’t forget the Big 10 and Michigan. I hope Matt gets some playing time. It sucks how he missed being the starter for Michigan last season and the freshman that took over turned out to be awesome. I’m sure he’ll do fine. He’s such a class act. Oh and apparently, the BCS has a new polling system. I hope it stops screwing teams over, i.e. Oregon, USC, Cal, Auburn, etc. At least I’ll be back for all the bowl games.

NHL: woooo hockey’s back! Even though I don’t watch hockey, I’m really happy for all my hockey friends who were looking in the “depths of despair.” (Another allusion to Anne of Green Gables) Has anyone else wanted to cry every time they saw the whiteboard in the AV room sprawled with the words “hockey is dead” over meticulously drawn brackets of NHL teams? And all that pressure on young hockey phenom Sidney Crosby, who has been hailed as the next Lemieux and Gretsky, to be the one to bring hockey back from oblivion. (Sid, you can puck around with me anytime you want. We can puck all day and all night long. What I meant to say was… Sidney, I want to skate into the sunset with you.) He’s exactly how I would imagined Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables… they’re both Canadians, except Gilbert’s from PEI and Sidney’s from NS. I’ve always sort of had a thing for hockey players… ever since the Might Duck movies. And when are they going to make D4? The plot should involve the original Ducks from the movies vying for the Stanley Cup. I’ve also always sort of had a thing for Canadian guys. I don’t know, there’s just something about them. Maybe it’s the way they talk. When I heard Sidney pronounce “about” like “a-boat,” I thought it was SO HOT! Okay, I admit… he is sort of goofy looking, especially when he smiles/smirks. I guess he only looks good when his teeth aren’t showing, when he’s in a hockey uniform, or when he’s dressed formally. I will pray to the hockey gods that nobody checks him really really hard.

The U.S.: I know I'll miss home a lot, even if I have an amazing time in China. *cue the God Bless the U.S.A and the America the Beautiful song*

Keeping up with Pop Culture: Even with the Internet and possibly television, I am afraid of missing out on entertainment news and events. I don’t want to miss popular music and news about popular TV shows or reality shows. Since I don’t have a favorite current TV show at the moment (I guess I only like reruns of The Simpsons and Friends), I won’t miss specific episodes per se, just news about it.

NEWS: I hope I will not miss out on exciting current events happening in the U.S.. That is one of my main concerns.

Dateline, 20/20, 48 Hours, and Primetime Live: current news and interesting stories that I like to hear about (BUT NOT INTERVIEWS)

Having my own bathroom and not having to walk down a hal to use it: I’ll keep you guys up to date about the bathroom situation.

People I will miss in China

Family:

And other relatives I They know who they are.

Friends:

Hometown friends (Elementary school, middle school, high school, friends I made through other friends): keep me up to date on stuff. You are all my bosom friends! (Remember Anne of Green Gables?... I know Ludy does!)

College friends: I will miss all the craziness that goes on and the awesome professors we have. Seriously, please don’t do anything stupid while drunk and get caught.

And everyone else... I just probably don't have a picture of you.... or I don't have a very good picture of you.

Happy Birthday Tom

Tom Brady was born on this day 28 years ago. Each time I hear his voice, I'm getting more and more used to it.

And my friend Neil was born on this day 22 years ago. Happy birthday to 2 sports dudes.
